The Circle of Excellence – Houston would like to invite you to schedule Continuing Education courses for you and your staff.  The following is a list of the courses that we currently offer and would like to offer to you. There are two ways to schedule a class, you can call the individual company listed with the course and make arrangements or you can call Paulette Janak at (281)242-5777 and she will assist with all necessary arrangements.

Understanding the Impact of the DTPA on the Insurance Professional #84206 (2hrs) - The Texas Insurance Code specifically incorporates the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act as a remedy available for consumers in insurance disputes regarding false, misleading, deceptive practices and unconscionable actions. This course examines the potential liabilities and conflicts these two statutes present to Texas Insurance Professionals.
Examination of Corporate Fraud #84205 (Ethics) (1hr) - A brief overview of recent cases of corporate fraud. Includes a review of different categories of corporate fraud, incidences and impact as well as trends and characteristics. Emphasis on the necessity of reviewing business practices to avoid conflicts with statutes. Examination of well-known cases and the direct relevance to common daily business situations.
Advances in the Mitigation of Water & Smoke Damage to Electronics for the Insurance Professional #83150 (2hrs) - An overview of recent technological developments in the restoration of residential and commercial electronics. Includes a scientific review of the impact of water/smoke on electronics as well as the benefits of remediation versus replacement.
Mitigation of Fire/Smoke Damage to Electronics for the Insurance Professional #83151 (1hr) - A focused examination of fire/smoke damage to electronics and advances in technology and procedure to make restoration cost-effective and beneficial to the insured and insurer.
Mitigation of Water Damage to Electronics for the Insurance Professional #84205 (General) (1hr) - A focused examination of damage to electronics due to water or high humidity exposure with an emphasis on early intervention and education for improved recovery rates.

Builder's Risk #22471 (3hrs) - This seminar will provide attendees with an increased understanding of builders risk loss evaluation. Included in the presentation will be a review of pertinent portions of the policy and an opportunity to evaluate different aspects of builders risk claims. The intent of the seminar will be to enable the adjuster to evaluate the amount of loss associated with builders risk claims.

Business Income & Extra Expense #81443 (4hrs) - This course will provide the adjuster with the accounting knowledge to measure small business income losses. The course focuses on the different types of business entities, the flow of accounting documents, accounting & insurance terminology, the purpose/goals of business income and extra expense coverage and methods for calculating business income and extra expense losses. In addition, this seminar provides hand-on cases that incorporate the concepts & techniques taught during the seminar.

Business Interruption Losses #16011 (2hrs) - This seminar will provide attendees with the increased understanding of business interruption losses. Included in the presentation will be an review of pertinent portions of the policy and an opportunity to calculate business income losses. The intent of the seminar/workshop will be to enable the adjuster to handle business income losses.
Business Interruption Losses Case Study #27827 (2hrs) - This class uses a case study methodology to develop the insurance professional's skill set for interpreting financial data and using financial data to prepare a preliminary estimate of Business Interruption Losses.
Employee Dishonesty #16013 (8hrs) - This seminar will provide attendees with an increased understanding of employee dishonesty losses. The goals are: 1) to provide each participant with a hands-on opportunity to apply their fraud deterrence and fraud detection skills to a fact pattern developed from actual cases; 2) to provide each participant with an opportunity to review control procedures, analyze financial data, interview company representatives, review documents of original entry; 3) to provide each participant with an opportunity to obtain information necessary for the assessment and identification of risks; 4) to provide each participant with an opportunity to report the findings a) if in the case study, no instances of the risk of management misstatement or ineffective controls are identified; b) if in the case study, manipulations, misrepresentations, weak or circumvented controls are identified.
Occupations Fraud and Abuse #7691 (1hr) - This class uses the Report to the Nation on Occupational Fraud and Abuse, which is based on 508 occupational fraud cases as reported by the certified Fraud Examiners who investigated them, to refine the insurance professional's knowledge of the effects of occupational fraud and abuse. The learning objectives are to 1) develop an increased understanding and recognition of potential occupational fraud schemes 2) develop skills to equip adjuster and claims managers with the preliminary identification of potential occupational fraud.

Water Damage Mitigation #18873 (3hrs) #4149 (1hr) - This course will demonstrate how water can damage carpet, wood floors and other building materials, how long until damage occurs and what steps can be taken to reduce or minimize the damage. The course will also illustrate water removal and explain the principles of drying and dehumidification. Mold growth, the use of antimicrobials and odor control will also be covered.
Mold Remediation #18867 (3hrs) - This program introduces the science of mold and explores the potentially harmful effects of mold on building materials and occupants. Participants will learn how mold grows, how it spreads and what actions should be taken to remove mold in a safe and reasonable manner. Procedures such as containment, negative air and the proper use of personal protective equipment are also covered.

Smoke and Odor Damage Mitigation #10835 (3hrs) #14815 (1hr) - The course will show how acid gases flow throughout a home, the damage it causes and what should be done about it. This course will review the proper smoke mitigation steps which can reduce the loss.

If You Don't Live It You Don't Believe It #10833 (3hrs) - This insurance company training program is designed to provide a practical look at ethical decision-making. Instead of relying on "gut feel," the process contained in this program takes the decision-maker through several filters which ensure that all parties affected by the decision will be considered
Mitigating Personal Property Packout Claims #25511 (3hrs) #81200 (1hr) - This course will demonstrate how technology is enabling the restoration professional to manage and track packout inventory, movement and restoration better than ever before, while giving the homeowner or business manager a sense of security about the process. The course will cover the new tools and technology of evaluating, restoring and tracking inventory from start to finish.

Subrogation Reporting on Mitigation Claims #31375 (3hrs) - This course is to help agents and adjusters control claims costs through subrogation investigation and reporting and to teach them the value of mitigation first responders in achieving this objective.
Insurance Fraud #31379 (3hrs) - This course focuses on the history, laws and statistics relating to the fraudulent insurance crimes that take place every day in America.
Errors and Omissions in the Insurance Industry #31377 (3hrs) - This course will look at E & O from multiple angles. Error & omission lawsuits can be one of the most frightening experiences for an insurance producer. With an ever-changing litigious society, the chances are increasing greatly.
Flood Insurance #80937 (4hrs) - To provide property and casualty insurance agents and adjusters an increased understanding of flood insurance and the benefits for their customers. Areas covered include NFIP and FEMA
Reducing Severities Through an Understanding of Furniture Damage & Restoration#43513CG030 (3hrs) - This three hour seminar for insurance professionals will educate the participants on the various causes and types of damage that can occur to fine furniture and wood surfaces in a property loss situation.
